Part 1: Managing Your Expectations
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, I invite you to reflect on the story of Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist recorded in Luke 1:1-38.
We read about Elizabeth’s miraculous conception despite being said to be unable to conceive.
Verse 30 stands out: “She who was said to be unable to conceive…” Her community has labeled her a barren woman more or less but her Maker has a different and better plan.
Is your situation similar to Elizabeth’s? Whose voice, opinion, attitude has defined your self worth? Who are you listening to? Who is determining your expectations? Have you considered what is written in Lamentations 3:37? “Who says a thing and it comes to pass when the Lord has not commanded it.”?
If you’ve been living under the influence of negative expectations or opinions of others, now is the time to drop that off, embrace and own the good plan that God has for you. Jeremiah 29:11.
This Christmas season, I encourage you to pick up your Bible to read; rediscover the love letter which God has written to you personally. Let His word redefine and shape your expectations. Believe God’s word, own it, and make it your reality.
