Obedience is defined as the act of obeying; dutiful or submissive behavior with respect to another person.
Most people find it difficult to submit to another person except to themselves. Rather than submit or obey another person we want to prove our self knowledge and self worth. In as much as there’s nothing totally wrong with that, we must take a step backwards to check our motives and be convinced that we are objective.
In the hierarchy of power, the junior person submits to the senior. Where this is not followed chaos ensues and once there’s chaos, purpose is defeated. . .
The most important ‘person’ that we must submit to is our conscience- it is the moral compass that our Creator has placed within us. We intuitively know when we are wrong and are cautioned. When signals from the conscience are consistently ignored, it becomes either weak or totally dead. However, the Word of God, the blood of Jesus and the Spirit of God can purify or quicken a dead conscience.
“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”
