“You don’t have to be a success to be a success”
– Nicole O. Salmon
A 2010 study published in Applied Psychology found that individuals with high levels of eudaimonic well-being—which involves having a sense of purpose along with a sense of control and a feeling like what you do is worthwhile—tend to live longer.
In another study published in the Journal of Research and Personality in 2016, it was found that individuals who feel a sense of purpose make more money than individuals who feel as though their work lacks meaning.
With all of those benefits, clearly it is important to find purpose and meaning in your life. But purpose and meaning is not something that can be determined quickly. The process requires plenty of self-reflection, listening to others, and finding where your passions lie among others.
I have listed below seven strategies that can help reveal your purpose so you can begin living a more meaningful life:
- Explore your interests- what do you often talk about? What activities do you enjoy doing?
- Surround yourself with positive people. You are the company you keep.
- Donate time, money and or talent- helping others is one of the best ways to live a life of purpose.
- Meet new people and strike conversation with them. This could open your eyes to activities, causes or career opportunities that you never knew existed.
- Discover injustices that bother you and support such in anyway you can.
- Request for feedback not only from close family members and friends but also from casual acquaintances.
- Ask your Maker. No one knows you better than the One who created you.
““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.””Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV
Finding your purpose isn’t something that can be done in a few days, weeks or months. It can be a lifelong journey, and it can only be done one step at a time. Sometimes that road to finding your purpose has a few curves, forks, and stop lights. However, don’t have to have it all together before you start to live purposefully; you don’t have to be a success to be a success. Start right where you are. That could mean picking up your phone to give me a call or shooting me an email. I love walking alongside individuals who are stuck to navigate the challenges of life so they can live life of impact.
Here’s to your life of impact!
