“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13–14
For the next several weeks, I shall be doing a broad exposition on the theme: Higher Ground
Higher Ground in the context of the Bible passage in reference is a high calling in Christ Jesus. It is an elevated position of power, motivation, vision, desire etc. Simply put, this higher ground calling is divine!
It is a mindset
We manifest what we think about. Proverbs 23:7. If you think high, you will act high, and soon you will “feel” higher. On the other hand, if your thoughts are low, you will act low and start to feel lower than who you truly are. Notice the progression.
Because how you feel about yourself is rooted in how you think about yourself, it’s essential to change your thoughts. The Bible says:
“You are to renew your mind.” — Romans 12:2
Give priority to studying the Word of God
Your mind is renewed as you study and meditate on the Word of God. This is why prioritizing the study of God’s Word is so vital in 2025.
“Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.”
— 2 Timothy 2:15 (AMPC)
Jesus is both the Living and the Written Word of God. If you study the Word and live by the Word, you are on your way to Higher Ground—the upward calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Agree with the Word
As you study and meditate on the Word of God, also agree with it by declaring what it says. Oftentimes, our circumstances do not align with the Word of God. If, you choose to elevate your life this year, you must equally choose to believe the Word over and above your circumstances, feelings and or people’s opinions.
“And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,”
II Corinthians 4:13 NKJV
“You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.”
Job 22:28 NKJV
