I used to be very shy. I never wanted to be in the limelight. Apparently, God has a different and better purpose for me. He has a better purpose for you as well. Jeremiah 29:11.
Shyness is not a virtue in the world we live in. You may choose to be shy to fit certain circumstances but boldness, courage, confidence are more needful and productive in our world. Why? It is a tough world! The brave, not the shy, overcome forcefully!
How can you overcome shyness? The first thing is to admit you are shy. Next, dig deeper into why you are shy. Don’t stop at the first answer to the first “why”, ask yourself seven “whys” and be persistent in obtaining sincere answers. Next, ask yourself, “how can I (insert your name) overcome this shyness? From reading about the subject of shyness, to practicing what those who overcame shyness did to praying and or seeking professional help, do whatever you need to do to become bolder.
In my self discovery journey, I discovered that one of the reasons people are shy is their inability to own their personal stories. People are either afraid of being rejected or ashamed about certain past experiences or are seeking for love and acceptance in the wrong places. You can only become bold, courageous, fearless and confident when you accept yourself authentically and start to leverage on both your strong and weak points to get to your next higher level. That is the mindset of a champion!
“So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them. ” So David took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.
So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.”
I Samuel 17:38-40, 50 NKJV
Like David, you need to take off every borrowed garment – toxic thoughts, toxic relationships, habits – and choose for yourself self love. Own your own story. It’s the bravest thing you’ll ever do. Be yourself, an original is so much better than a copy. David emerged the better champion because he took off King Saul’s armors, and utilized his familiar weapons.
This week dig deeper into yourself, ask yourself seven whys and don’t stop until you obtain answers from within you.
