“History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.”
Ecclesiastes 1:9 NLT

There’s an insightful story in the book of Daniel 3: 8-30. Please read it. Simply put, three Hebrew guys were held hostage at a foreign land, Babylon. The King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar demanded all peoples of his kingdom to bow down to his carved gold image. Death penalty through real burning fire awaits anyone who refuses to bow. These Hebrew children refused vehemently to bow. They were willing to burn rather than bow.

Can you mentally picture that scenario? Bow or burn? What would you have done?

See, history is about to be repeated. It is already being repeated. Has your employer requested you to choose between coming to work on Sunday or resign your appointment? Have you heard it said before that you cannot but work on a Sunday in America? Do you know anyone fired for praying for a sick patient? Have you had to choose between your time of personal fellowship and social party? The scenarios are endless. We are constantly being faced with a choice between what we want, what our environment wants and what our spirit would rather have us do.

What lessons can we learn from the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego?

I identified ten:

  1. No experience is new. Whatever you are going through, someone has experienced it before.
  2. On your way to fulfilling destiny or to your next level you may have to pass through a “fiery furnace.”
  3. Trials and tribulations are sometimes employed by God to refine us and prepare us for our next level
  4. You have the power to exercise your will or decision.
  5. “No” can be a good decision.
  6. Be strong in your God knowledge through personal knowledge and revelation.
  7. Be conscious of the presence of the “Fourth man” – Jesus is the Fourth man and He promised never to leave you nor forsake you.
  8. If you stay true to your godly conviction, God will honor His name in your life.
  9. If you refuse to bow to the intimidation of your enemies, they will burn inside the fiery furnace in your place.
  10. No matter how horrid your present situation is, you are coming out!

Have a great week ahead!
