people praying

NOTHING speaks more powerfully to the soul of a man better than the Word of God. I therefore implore you to read the following Bible passages – they provide the needed answers to the following pertinent questions:

  • What is repentance?
  • Why is repentance required?
  • Who can repent?
  • How can one repent?
  • Who takes the lead in national repentance?
  • Is God calling for worldwide repentance through COVID-19 ?
  • If He is, who will go for Him?

Why is repentance necessary?

“The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.”

‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What is national repentance? Who will be the voice of God in calling for repentance? Who takes the lead?

“This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all. On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow. When the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying, he stepped down from his throne and took off his royal robes. He dressed himself in burlap and sat on a heap of ashes. Then the king and his nobles sent this decree throughout the city: “No one, not even the animals from your herds and flocks, may eat or drink anything at all. People and animals alike must wear garments of mourning, and everyone must pray earnestly to God. They must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence. Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will change his mind and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us”

Are there benefits to national repentance?

” When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.”

‭‭Jonah‬ ‭3:3-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Conclusion

  1. “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!””
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:14-15‬ ‭NLT‬‬
  1.  “As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”              Romans 10:11-13 NLT

God used a man to save the righteous in Sodom & Gomorrah when He could no longer tolerate their wickedness.Genesis 18:20 – 33. God raised Jonah to be His voice to decry the evil of the people of Nineveh and call for their repentance. They repented. I believe God’s mercy will be upon us IF He could find a man like Jonah,  in every nation of the world who will honestly decry the atrocities of their land and boldly call for repentance from the greatest to the least.

COVID-19 may be God’s call for genuine repentance from all our evil ways.
Will you be His voice in your nation?
