I was provoked to holy anger on Saturday morning when I listened to a post by a man of God in Nigeria. As I listened, two Biblical stories immediately came to my mind. The story of the proverbial prodigal son and Esau & Jacob. The stories can be found in Genesis 27:40 and Luke 15:11-32.
Peace is something all human beings desire – young, old, poor, rich, black, white or green colored. Peace is the absence of disturbance, tension, crisis. It happens in the climate of justice, fairness and equity. According to this man of God, “it is not possible for peace, tranquility and serenity to happen under certain conditions of extreme abnormalities such as:
- Injustice, unfairness and inequity.
- Oppression, subjugation, suppression of one group of people by another.
- Nepotism, tribalism, religionism and every form of prejudice.
- Deprivation, poverty and hunger.
- Deception, falsehood and untruth.
- Indiscretion and lack of wisdom.”
After suffering massively, the prodigal son came to his senses; he arose from his deplorable state. He decided that he is worth far more than his deplorable state. He took decisive action towards the accomplishment of his preferable future.
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”
-Luke 15; 17-18
In a scenario similar to the Prodigal Son’s, Esau, the twin brother of Jacob was told by their father Jacob what he could do in order to break loose from the oppression that would befall him due to his brother’s fraudulent action.
39-40 Isaac said to him,
You’ll live far from Earth’s bounty, remote from Heaven’s dew.
You’ll live by your sword, hand-to-mouth, and you’ll serve your brother. But when you can’t take it anymore you’ll break loose and run free. -Genesis 27:40
So, my question to you is: what injustice have you allowed till date? What oppression, deprivation, subjugation, falsehood, indiscretion have you endured and enabled as a wife, husband, worker, citizen, child, believer? Or, even worse, how have you subdued, maltreated, oppressed, deceived, cheated, repressed a child, a spouse, a worker, your church members, your siblings or parents? On either side of the coin, you must decide you can’t take it anymore. Until you take ownership of your problem there’s little anyone can do to help you.
Taking ownership starts with being self-aware, having a sense of self-worthiness. If you don’t have a positive self-image, you will accept anything that is thrown at you. It is what you have within you that attracts what is outside.
I developed AUTHENTIC YOU COACHING PROGRAM as an empowering tool to create an awareness of personal core values, leverage on them and unpack whatever holds you back. Read the testimonial of one of those that attended the last cohort:
“I knew something was missing but I didn’t know how to find what it was so of course I didn’t know how to deal with it. I reluctantly joined the Authentic You Coaching Program where I learned more about myself and I discovered what the problem was. I’m glad that I am on the road to ‘recovering’ myself and I can see that I have become more confident and more assertive. I’m glad that I didn’t miss the opportunity. Coach Bimpe helped me dig deep into myself and discover for myself and by myself what changes I needed to make. Thank you Coach Bimpe for making me a happier human being.
